Glass Marquetry

I began a series of works inspired by the technique of glass marquetry after participating in the “Masterworks” session at Pilchuck during the 90s. An amazing 3-week of collaboration with Dale Chihuly, Lino Tagliapietra, Dick Marquis, and other fabulous individuals, all outstanding in their respective fields.

Bill Warmus was instrumental in creating the event. His interest in and research of the work of Emile Galle sparked this idea.

Glass fragments are engraved, shaped, and then incorporated into a new form of molten glass. This technique allows one to create a multilayered piece incorporating previously engraved bits and pieces into a tapestry, a quilt of detailed fragments, weaving together a new narrative.

This new piece is then again changed by sculpting the entire surface by cutting, engraving, and polishing to create the “New Normal”.
